Purple Contacs

What are Purple Colored Eye Contacts?

Less than 1% of people have naturally violet eyes. If you weren't lucky enough to be born among them, you may have found yourself wondering, "Are there purple contacts that can change my eye color?" And the answer, of course, is a resounding yes!

Today, purple contact lenses come in a variety of styles. Options are available that provide both prescription vision correction and purple coloring, while other styles are "plano" lenses, which means they're purely cosmetic and don't provide any vision correction.

In the past, translucent purple lenses often did not show up well on dark colored irises. However, improvements in lens printing techniques in recent years have made it possible to craft translucent, natural-looking purple contacts for brown eyes, blue eyes, and every color in between. While translucent lenses will look different depending on the shade of your eyes, these modern lenses provide just enough opacity, especially at the edges of the iris, to give your eyes a beautiful purple hue.

Of the two varieties of contacts (prescription or plano), plano lenses tend to be more vibrantly colored, since prescription lenses must be translucent and the most vivid colors and patterns are opaque. These lenses, particularly special effects lenses that cover the pupil or scleral lenses that cover the white as well as the iris of your eye, may impede your vision to varying degrees. Make sure to take time to practice with your contacts before you plan to debut them, especially if your plans involve a lot of moving around!

Despite that possible drawback, if the look you're going for calls for something more spectacular than natural purple, plano lenses are the way to go. They're available in a wide range of colors, patterns, and styles, with options from light purple contacts perfect for portraying animated characters to purple scleral lenses that give your eyes a positively eerie appearance. These lenses are especially useful in cosplay, since purple eyes are commonly used in media. Often violet eyes represent rare beauty (think Elizabeth Taylor's famous violet eyes), while dark purple contacts can be used to denote supernatural or otherworldly powers.

Ideas for Styling Purple Contacts

Whether for everyday wear, costuming, or cosplay, the options for purple colored contacts are virtually limitless. If you need a little inspiration for how to style them for yourself, check out these ideas!

Subtle Violet for Everyday Looks

Purple is one of those colors that walks a fine line between looking completely natural and utterly outlandish, and getting that balance right can take some trial and error.

For everyday wear, your best bet are semi-translucent purple colored contacts, whether prescription or plano, since they augment your natural eye color rather than completely replacing it. Matching the tone of your natural color (for example, deep amethyst for brown eyes, pale violet for blue) will generally give the most naturalistic look, but experiment to see what you like!

There are even multi-color options with printing that shades from purple to other hues like blue or green. These tend to look more or less purple depending on the colors around you. All but the most subtle shades of purple will show up against dark and light eyes alike. The only difference is the end result, so you might want to get a couple of different styles to try.

Cosplay Characters

If your cosplay character has purple eyes, a pair of contacts are a must to put the finishing touches on your costume.

Animated Characters

Purple eyes may be rare in the real world, but they're quite common in animated characters. Here are just a few examples to help you plan your next look!
* The Cheshire Cat If your costume is inspired by the grinning Cheshire Cat from the Disney film Alice in Wonderland, purple cat eyes contacts are a must! They lend just the right air of mischief and mystery to this fickle character.
* Megara Another Disney character with purple eyes, Megara from Hercules is an ancient Greek femme fatale with attitude. As she puts it, "I'm a damsel. I'm in distress. I can handle it." Her eyes are a warm, bright purple that matches both her eyeshadow and her dress.
* My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic With a cast of such colorful characters (both literally and figuratively), it's no surprise that purple eyes aren't uncommon in this animated series. Just look at Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash for a couple of prime examples!
* Sailor Scouts The classic anime Sailor Moon features a number of purple-eyed characters, including two of the Sailor Scouts: Sailor Mars and Sailor Saturn. While Sailor Mars' eyes sometimes look blue and sometimes purple, Sailor Saturn's are always a vivid amethyst hue.
* Raven from Teen Titans From her first appearance in the comics to her various animated incarnations, part of Raven's signature look has always been her vivid purple eyes. Opaque lenses in bright purple would recreate the effect perfectly.
* Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club While many purple-eyed characters are female, Tamaki Suoh breaks the mold. In the anime version of Ouran High School Host Club, his eyes are a bright lilac that matches his blazer. Coupled with his blond hair and natural charm, Tamaki's eyes often give him an edge with the ladies.

Live-Action Characters

Purple eyes are somewhat less common in live-action movies (excluding, of course, everything done by the famously violet-eyed Elizabeth Taylor). Their rarity does tend to make purple-eyed characters stand out, however. For example:

* The Witches Movie In Roald Dahl's book The Witches, the titular characters had mysterious colors that swirled deep in their eyes, but the film version uses vivid purple eyes to give a more defined effect and make the witches and their powers more identifiable.
* House Targaryen in Game of Thrones Thought it's not evident in all the Targaryen characters on screen, the books on which the HBO series was based frequently mention the purple eyes that, along with their white-blond hair, indicate House Targaryen's Valyrian bloodlines. Characters listed as having purple eyes include Daenerys, whose eyes were violet, and her brother Viserys, whose eyes were a very pale shade of purple. Additional Targaryen characters featured in the books but not the series have eyes ranging from indigo purple to so deeply amethyst they're almost black.
* Guardians of the Galaxy So any movie or film franchise with aliens involved will probably eventually get around to having some with purple eyes, but in this case, one of the most notable instances of purple eyes comes from our intrepid heroes using the Power Infinity Stone. In fact, this is one of the most dramatic examples of live-action purple eyes, as the Guardians' normal eye colors are replaced with vivid purple and black. Though the film version was created in post-production using CGI, a pair of black and purple scleral lenses can recreate the effect admirably for cosplay purposes. For even more wow factor, make this one a group costume!
* Yennefer from The Witcher In both the hit Netflix series and the books on which it is based, the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg has startling violet eyes. Even after magical but torturous rituals to make her physically beautiful, her eyes remain the same, since the color is considered rare, beautiful, and associated with her powerful magical abilities.

Which purple color lenses are best?

In choosing the best purple contacts for your needs, look for lenses that are, first and foremost, from a reliable company with stringent safety procedures. But of course, safety aside, the best lenses are the ones that give you the look you want! At Meyeyebb, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of options, from purple contacts for dark eyes to full scleral lenses designed for special effects.

Where can I buy purple contacts?

There are lots of places where you can buy purple and violet contacts, but rather fewer places where you should. As more people recognize the possibilities that cosmetic contacts offer for costuming, cosplay, and special effects, they're becoming easier to find, but that also means that poor-quality contacts are more widely available as well. Do your research and avoid cheap contacts that cut corners on safety. At Myeyebb, we strive to meet or exceed all possible safety regulations from production to packaging.

All our lenses are of the highest quality, with contacts as thin as 0.08mm and superior breathability for all day comfort, so when you shop with us, you know that you're getting lenses that are top quality at prices you can't beat.

Are there prescription contacts available in purple?

Yes! You can certainly find purple or violet contacts with prescription vision correction. As with most types of cosmetic contacts, there are fewer styles of purple prescription lens available than plano lenses due to the translucence required to create corrective lenses, but there are still purple contacts available.

How much do purple eye contacts cost?

As with most contacts, this depends a bit on the style you choose. At Myeyebb, lenses range in price from as low as $5.99 (USD) to $79.99 for large special effects lenses. Most, however, are about $20 per pair, though with our special offers and free worldwide shipping on most orders, you're likely to get a better value than with similarly priced lenses from other outlets.
